23mm, New York Militia Staff button. The "Extra/* Quality *" backmark is a hard to see in the image, but can easily be made out under a magnifying glass. The location that the button was dug is unknown, though it is in nice woods found condition. It is a good representative example of the Civil War New York State Seal uniform button.
